Part-Time Dispatcher
The Moon Township Police Department is seeking applicants for part-time dispatcher in the Moon Police Telecommunications Center. Applicant should possess strong multi-tasking skills, exemplary communication skills and general knowledge of crisis management. These skills combined with extensive on the job training would be used to perform daily job duties and assist sworn personnel with resolving calls for service. Applicants must be proficient with gathering, disseminating, and documenting information exchanged between the public and sworn personnel. Applicants are primarily responsible for interacting with the public via telephone and in-person for the purpose of responding to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance and information.
Job Responsibilities:
• Receives incoming calls from the general public concerning emergency police, fire, or medical service needs or non-emergency assistance requests.
• Dispatches sworn personnel to non–emergency & emergency calls for service.
• Processes a high volume of calls efficiently to determine the need for assistance, proper routing and response.
• Transfers calls to appropriate personnel, administrative staff or other agencies.
• Gathers information from callers, initiates incident reports and assigns incident case numbers.
• Responds to requests from callers that are deaf, deaf-blind, speech impaired, hearing impaired, and/or who speak limited English.
• Contacts callers who were disconnected or who were unresponsive during initial calls.
• Provides general information to callers including availability of services, jurisdictional limitations, program information and referral to appropriate departments or agencies.
• Demonstrates techniques in conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation, working in a high-pressured and structured environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Proficiency with data entry in police records management system
Proficiency with police radio operations
Proficiency with Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) policies and procedures
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Non-smoker, no visible tattoos, no brandings and no body piercings or surgical body modifications while in uniform
Preferred Qualifications:
Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) certified
Able to fill all shifts including day, afternoon and night as well as weekends and holidays
